Terrible Customer Service

I went into the Five Guys restaurant in Laurel, Maryland around 6:40 PM on 5/27/2021 to purchase food for myself and my family. When I get to the register the young lady behind the register begins to take my order, but before I can even get a 6th word out to describe the remaining menu items I wanted to purchase, one of the other employees walks over from the food prep table, embarrassingly taps the cashier on the shoulder, rudely points at me as I’m standing on the other side of the plastic barrier and passively aggressively asks the cashier taking my order, “what’s wrong with this picture here?!” The cashier then looks at me and shrugs as a gesture of, “I don’t know” but then goes on to say, “Oh, he doesn’t have a mask on.” The other employee walks back to the prep table and the cashier then begrudgingly says to me, “I can’t take your order if you don’t have a mask on.” I tell the cashier, “I have a respiratory medical issue so I do not wear masks. And I then proceed to notify her that, “the governor of the state of Maryland removed the indoor and outdoor mask mandate for ALL Marylanders.” Cashier then looks at the other employee at the food prep counter and confusingly replies to me with a shrug, “I just work here.” I then look to the rude employee and ask her politely, “are you aware that the governor of the state of Maryland has removed the indoor/outdoor mask mandate?” Rude employee who later told me her name is Tara then replies, “We were told not to serve customers who don’t have masks on.” Baffled and appalled that I would be refused service simply because I can’t wear a mask and amazed that this business was totally ignoring current CDC and State health guidance, I then reply, “So you are not going to provide me with service?” She replies, “No!” I, not wanting to make a scene or be disrespectful, reply back, “okay.” Angered, embarrassed, and upset for myself and the cashier who was also disrespected and seemingly embarrassed by her coworker’s actions during the brief exchange, I exit the restaurant and walk to my vehicle. I sit in my vehicle and immediately use my phone to visit the Five Guys website to research Five Guys’ restaurant policy regarding masks. I read the Five Guys Covid-19 safety measures webpage, watch their YouTube video and read a Five Guys memo regarding their Covid-19 statement and nowhere on the Five Guys website or any materials Five Guys has written or produced explicitly states that guests MUST wear masks or be refused service. It does not say that ANYWHERE. Nor does it state that guests or employees of Five Guys should be made to feel uncomfortable and othered during our interactions with staff. I feel the actions of Tara, the Five Guys employee, were totally disrespectful and shameful. She overstepped her bounds, and as a result of that I - a person who used to love Five Guys’ food, atmosphere and service - will not ever dine at ANY Five Guys again and I will tell my family to do the same. I am ashamed of the terrible customer service that was given, and in the future will just travel a little further down Route 1 to spend my money at Chic-Fil-A.

How difficult is it to get an order…

How difficult is it to get an order correct! You don’t even have to take the order yourself, it’s all on line! They charge a fortune and can’t even get the toppings correct! Stay in school people! You try to support your local franchises during a pandemic but they can’t seem to get an order as simple as a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce mayo ketchup pickles and jalapeños. How difficult is that!

Ordered online

Ordered online. Waited 50 minutes for my food!! When it arrived it was cold! Asked for a refund as that is disgusting service and was told thats not possible as I took the food... what else am I mean’t to do?! Awful service. Had to reheat the food in the microwave and the food was burnt.
Was told by a staff member that they couldn’t cope and while I was waiting you could see all the bags of food piling up going cold. Disgusting

My son wanted to try this place

My son wanted to try this place. It’s shockingly bad, particularly for families with vegetarians or vegans, where not one of the “5 guys” could manage to come up with any of the many superb vegetarian/vegan burger offerings. Just terrible.

I’ve been a Five Guys customer for many…

I’ve been a Five Guys customer for many years. I understand about Covid and things being different, but I may not be a customer for much longer. I got a burger and fries, to go, yesterday 11-28-2020 and the burger was so-so and the fries were terrible......they gave me all the scrap pieces. Not one fry was longer than 2 inches. Not Good

Even FREE food won’t convince me to return ...

Went to the New Albany, Indiana location. The dump truck load of fries were limp, greasy, and barely warm. I don’t care if they gave me a huge serving if it’s nasty food. Gross!!! The onions and mushroom add on to my burger contained hard crunchy bits of veggies that were overcooked. We paid over $25 for 2 burgers and 1 fry. Hubby and I agreed that a nearby national fast food chain has better burgers and fries for more than half the cost. We won’t be back — even if the food is FREE!
